It used to be that almost all houses were built of wood; this is starting to change however. There are a few reasons for this but the big one is that the cost of wood has been soaring. The main reason is that it is just easier to build the structure for large buildings this way, this is the same reason that most skyscrapers are also built out of cement. Basically you need to build the entire outline of the house out of wood and then fill it in with cement. In the past the forms could only be used once which meant the cost was very high. There are now removable forms available however which greatly reduces the cost. These are ideal for housing developments where houses are all being built to a similar design. You can build the form and pour the cement and then take the forms down and set them up at the next house. This dramatically reduces the cost of building a cement house.
